July 23rd, 2009 - As I was out walking in the morning I started thinking
about ministering on the street and healing people such as Jesus did
long ago. As the thought "not my area" occurred to me, I remembered the
movie "Michael" in which John Travolta plays a rather non traditional
angel who says "not my area" when asked to help a small dog which runs
into traffic and is killed. He does eventually raise the dog in the
movie but as that thought occurred to me, horns blared on the four lane
road next to where I stood on the sidewalk. I looked over and there was a
small dog of the same size and shape as the one in the movie in the
middle of the road. He was not hit I think, but he was terrified and
traffic was starting to backup. At that moment he saw me looking at him
and eagerly came over to me and nuzzled me and let me pet him. As I
looked around wondering what I could do with this little dog, he took
off back up the sidewalk in the other direction following some scent
trail and I watched him go. I started laughing at God's sense of humor
and when I looked back a moment later, the little dog was gone, perhaps
into some yard or side street. I am still puzzling over the meaning of
this incident but it is clear that God is closely watching not just what
I do or say, but what I am thinking and He wants me to know that! Of
course it could also be that He is telling me that our "area" of
authority can change in a moment. ;-)
